Q.

How to get rid of dry scaley skin on legs, no matter what scrubby mitts, brushes, salt or sugar scrubs and AHA lotions I use I never seem to be able to get through the top layer of dead skin. I apply lotions and creams everyday but they just stay on top. My skin is fine, no excema etc but its just really dry.

– G. Allen asked on Facebook

A.

Hi, The Chemistry Brand‘s Hyaluronic Concentrate would be a great product for you. It contains multiple Hyaluronic Acid technologies that not only will offer immediate hydration, but will also provide below-surface hydration and promote your skin to retain it’s own moisture. This will result in extreme long-term hydration and textural improvement to skin so should stop your cycle of dead skin! Plus it comes in a great 240ml bottle so lasts a long time and dries quickly so no waiting around time!

– Nicola from The Chemistry Brand

Q.

Q.

What makes baked cosmetics from Laura Geller so good?

A.

Laura Geller is renowned as the pioneer of baked products; multi-tasking powder cosmetics that deliver remarkably vibrant color. Because these silky domes of powder begin as liquid pigments that are then baked for 24 hours on terracotta tiles, they don’t require additional fillers, and that means the color is not only more pure, but also weightless in feel.

Q.

How do I apply the 4-in-1 from Pur properly?

A.

Using the PUR Cosmetics Chisel Brush, apply after your skincare regime and primer in circular motions to achieve an even and flawless finish. Layer as needed for your desired coverage. For those small or hard-to-reach areas, use a smaller brush, such as a Utility or Maximum Coverage Brush.

Is dry shampoo actually good for hair?

A.

Wet shampoos may strip the oils from your hair and scalp, including oils that help keep your hair strong a healthy.
Dry Shampoos work to absorb excess oils and product build-up from your hair allowing you to extend the time between washings.
In addition to helping keep your hair healthy it is an amazing time saver for any busy woman!
The Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoos are formulated without talc and include a lemon verbena scent to neutralize any unfresh odors that cling to second day hair.

– Christopher Macken from Oscar Blandi

Q.

Is there a difference between foundation and a powder?

A.

Foundation is the basis for the face…. It is the second step (followed by the right skincare- foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer)….
Foundation can come in a wardrobe of choices from powder, liquid, crème, etc… the right formula depends on the lifestyle and skin condition of the woman. Some foundations can be layered to achieve a certain finish or look.
Powder depending on the formula can either be to set foundation or be used as foundation itself.
Cargo has an innoviative product called HD Press powder :
_ innovative oil-free formula

– Micronize minerals give an optical blurring effect so skin appears flawless
Using the magic brush, HD press powder can be apply directly onto the skin and layered until you have achieve the finish you want.
It can be applied alone or over any foundation.

– Rogelio from Cargo

Q.

Can you give me some tips on contouring? How can I disguise a saggy chin?

A.

Contouring techniques using foundation can make your face look a bit more chiseled and bring out those beautiful cheek bones. The key to contouring is using dark and light shades strategically placed to accentuate and create a 3D type of effect.

Simply apply a darker shade of foundation to your cheek area and a lighter Simple shade below the cheek bone down to your jaw line. The way to find the correct spot to place that shading is by sucking in your cheeks. This will instantly give your face a lift.

To take it a step further, you can also apply the darker shade of foundation around the jaw line going back towards your ears. Be sure to blend it in towards your neck so you don’t create the look of a beard. You can also soften this up with a light application of blush on your cheeks and around the jaw line. And for an instant face lift, apply the blush a bit higher than your cheeks up towards your eyes.

– Eve Pearl from Eve Pearl

Q.

How do I disguise crow’s feet and make my eyes pop?

A.

If you suffer from crow’s feet, use highlight shades (light yellows) on the outside of the eyes to open them up and eliminate the red in the crows feet.
Using jewel toned eye shadows will absolutely accentuate and bring out your eyes. Don’t be afraid of using shimmers, but remember that shimmers are different from glitters.
Apply false lashes for extra oomph!
Don’t forget to shape your eyebrows. A clean brow will always open up the eyes especially when you apply a matte shadow to the brow bone.

– Eve Pearl from Eve Pearl

Q.

How do I get thicker looking eyebrows?

A.

There are three ways. For a long term solution, You can condition your Brows with the Chella Eyebrow Conditioning Treatment or you can fill in your Brow’s with either our Chella Eyebrow Pencil or Cream. We have many customers who do a combination of both as the Pencil and Creams will immediately give you fuller looking beautiful brows and the treatment is a long term solution!

– Chris Kolodziejski from Chella Brow

Q.

What is the best way to pluck your eyebrows to get the best shape?

A.

By using our Chella How to Map and Groom your Brows technique, followed by the How to Brow in Three Easy Steps.

– Chris Kolodziejski from Chella Brow

Q.

How do I use an eye pencil to get the most natural eyebrow look?

A.

Use the Chella Eyebrow Pencil to fill in your brows. Begin to lightly apply the product in an upward motion at the front of the brow; remember a little goes a long way. As you get closer to the arch to tail area, gradually build up the product in the direction the hairs grow. The brow should be light and natural in the front and gradually get darker towards the tail.

– Chris Kolodziejski from Chella Brow

Q.

Sculpting ie darker what on sides of nose and tip to make shorter and narrower, where for the forehead and chin.

A.

For all sculpting or contouring, it is best to use a full shade darker than your normal foundation and blend it in very well. ‘Less is best’ when highlighting. The attached image is intentionally extreme to show where the darker shades should be used. Shade either side of the nose and the tip to reduce size and length. For a double chin, shade under the chin and blend down the neck. For a prominent jawline shade just under the jawline, about 2cm in from the earlobes to reduce the width. For a large forehead, shade around the hair line and temples. Blend the darker foundation with your normal foundation shade, to create a shadow effect, with will contour (highlight or minimize) the relevant facial features.

– Brenton from CoverDerm

Q.

I have a really large raised scar how do I blend it into my skin (not just cover up) as being raised still is apparent

A.

Unfortunately a raised scar is impossible to flatten with make-up – including CoverDerm. The only way to flatten a raised scar is to have it injected with cortisone, which you’d need to see your doctor about. CoverDerm can most definitely cover the pigmentation and hide the scar.

– Brenton from CoverDerm

Q.

How do you select the correct lip colour for your complexion and to make sure you keep your theeth looking white? ie is is blue based for theeth to look whiter and then how to select for skin colour.

A.

Lip colours are personal, but brighter lip shades will give your teeth a whiter appearance. Color choice can be trial and error, however if you have thin lips avoid darker shades as it can accentuate that. Dusty rose shades and muted orange/brown shades usually suit everyone.

– Brenton from CoverDerm

Q.

Should I be using moisturiser and primer? Or just one or the other?

A.

We recommend using both moisturiser and primer. They both perform different functions. A moisturisers main function is to provide Hydration. They also tend to provide other skincare benefits depending on your chosen moisturiser, i.e. spf content, wrinkle treatment etc. Primers tend to be lighter weight than moisturiser and are great for helping skin to looks smoother as well as helping makeup last longer. We recommend following your moisturiser with a primer.

Q.

How do I get my lipstick to wear longer?

A.

Feel like your lipstick is always running out on you – that’s so not cool? Want it to hang out a little longer – good?!! Get ready to lock those lips into place girlfriend!!
Every season, one of the biggest trends we see on the runway is a bold pop of colour on the lips. We’re not discriminatory when it comes to different lip colours or lip textures (we’ll try anything from red to orange and from high shine to matte), but there’s one thing we take very seriously, kittens and that’s making our lovely lip products last!
Regardless of whether you’re wearing a nude shade or you’re braving a fuchsia colour, there’s nothing more frustrating than leaving your house with a perfect pout and needing to adjust and reapply an hour later after two sips of coffee. That’s a deal breaker! For this reason, we knew we had to share our secrets for how to make your lip products last all day (and night) long, no matter what colour your fantantic mood calls for!
By taking the time to do these extra steps of prep for your lips, you’ll save yourself the frustration of the hourly reapplication of your lipstick. From uses a lip liner to setting your hue with a translucent powder, these are the lipstick secrets we swear by. Take a minute to learn the proper way to keep your lucious lips looking great all day and you’ll never apply lipstick the same way again – we promise girlfriend!!
The secret to setting your lipstick is a combination of prep, application, and product choices. Check out these tips, tricks & trade secrets for a long-lasting lip colour!
1. To ensure your lipstick lasts, you’ll want to ensure there are no flakes of dead skin renting out space on your pout. Use a lip scrub to exfoliate those little dudes away.
2. Next, apply a hydrating, non-oily lip balm. Anything with a waxy consistency is preferred over a slippery texture that will cause colour to slide right off.
3. Pat a little neutralizing creme or concealer over lips. Don’t entirely erase your mouth, but cancel out your lip’s natural pink shade so that your lip colour’s true hue comes through. This also gives your lip colour a little something extra to adhere to. If you have a deeper | dark skin tone, this also helps enhance the lipstick’s true colour.
4. Now, take a lip liner and outline the lips, as well as fill them in. The lip pencil is drier than lipstick and serves as a layer of color for the lipstick to grab onto. I love using the shade studio spice by ybf beauty as it is the perfect dusty rose that works with all lip colours in your lip wardrobe!
5. If you’re wearing a big & bold lip colour, outlining the outer edge of your lip that was already lined with a liner – now to help your lip colour pop even more us a littld concealer with a concealer brush – it also will create an extra barrier to prevent bleeding. It’s basically like installing a fence for your lipstick! Outline and tap softly with your finger to blend the concealer.
6. Begin applying your colour selectively, instead of just swiping across your whole lip. Use a lip brush for perfect, even, controlled application. Start at the edges and fill in the rest of your lips.
7. Take a tissue and separate it into two halves. Place one sheet on your lips and dust a translucent powder like ybf complexion perfection, powder over your lips, through the tissue. This is a trick you’ll see makeup artists doing backstage at fashion shows. Now you won’t worry that it’s some model torture treatment. This sets the colour, without depositing a layer of powder.
8. Lightly apply a bit more lipstick on top. Now smile. Your lip color is ready to go the distance angel!

Did You Know?
There is no such thing as a lipgloss that lasts all day. If you want a glossy look, you will have to reapply throughout the day. Or place a dab in the center of the lip and not all over. Matte formulas will last longer but can be drying, if you skip the prep! Using lip liner will always make your colour last longer. Make sure you fill in the lip entirely! Use a lip brush with gloss too, for a more precise application!

– Stacey from YBF

Q.

I don’t wear make-up so is it still necessary to cleanse my skin twice every day?

A.

Even if you don’t wear make-up, your skin is still faced with pollution, dust and bacteria throughout the day. We recommend cleansing as it’s a vital part of your daily skincare regime and it rids the skin of impurities. For a really quick and convenient cleanse, try Cleansing Facial Wipes.

Q.

I’m a 36 year old woman with acne prone skin and pigmentation, not severe but noticeable. What skincare products would you recommend me using?

A.

For problematic skin, we recommend using our Judith Williams Retinol Concentrate and Retinol Skin Force Face Cream which helps to target problem areas and can be used all over the face. If you are concerned that you may react to a product we would recommend doing a patch test 24 hours before trying any new products. It may also be better to focus on the one range and then it will be easier to see if these products are giving the desired results, then start introducing more new ranges. Our Beauty Institute is targeted at problematic skin and might be a good place to start. The Judith Williams ranges can be used in combination which is a great way of targeting specific problem areas.

Q.

Should I be using SPF in my daily skincare routine?

A.

Yes! It is best to use skincare products that contain SPF to help to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful UV rays. If you use moisturiser, use one with sunscreen. This will also help to prevent premature wrinkles and aging of the skin.

Q.

Why is Argan Oil so special?

A.

According to “The Journal of Pharmacy & Pharmacology” based in France, using the “Traditional” process in the production of Argan Oil it takes a single person 58 hours to produce 2 – 2.5 litres of Argan Oil and this uses 100kg of fruit. No wonder it’s the most expensive Oil in the world… even with the new mechanical process which is being adopted in some places in Morocco, to produce 4 to 6 litres of Argan Oil it still takes 13 hours of work and uses 100kg of fruit! Argan Oil is very difficult to make, it takes hours of manual labour and so unfortunately there is no such thing as cheap Argan Oil.

Q.

What are the best preventative measures for aging skin?

A.

To help keep your skin looking as young as possible for as long as possible, we would recommend always wearing sunscreen and having a good moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated. It’s also worth paying attention to what you eat and refraining from smoking. Those are really the secrets!

TVSN Beauty Team

Q.

What is the best way to minimise pores? I have been suffering with large pores for years.

A.

Pore minimizers are great! Minimising pores permanently is unrealistic, however, you can definitely minimise the appearance of them by adopting the right skincare regime. Pore minimisers are a silicone product that you put on and then layer foundation on top. They help to smooth out the complexion and reduce the appearance of pores.

TVSN Beauty Team

Q.

I want a really low maintenance skin care regime. Help! What are the most important pars of a skincare routine?

A.

We’d say wearing sunscreen is an important part of any skincare regime. Since sun damage increases the risk of skin cancer, as well as skin problems ranging from wrinkles to dark spots, wearing sunscreen on a daily basis should be the first step in your routine. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 15. In terms of other parts of your skincare regime, it takes just a few minutes each morning and each evening to do the basics for your skin: we’d recommend washing your face with a gentle cleanser and applying a moisturiser to the face and neck area twice a day.

Q.

What is Argan Oil?

A.

Argan Oil also known as Oil of Morocco or ‘Liquid Gold’ has long been a well-kept secret known only to those who have sought the absolute best in hair and skin care. Argan Oil remains one of the rarest oils in the world due to the small and very specific growing areas. It all starts with the Moroccan Tree which is grown in South Western Morocco. The Moroccan Tree also known as ‘The Tree of Life’ is extremely well adapted to drought and other environmentally harsh conditions and bears a fruit which is a delicacy for tree climbing goats. The goats eat the fruit but leave the hard nut untouched. These nuts are then gathered by locals who extract the Argan Oil from the kernels via a cold pressing process

Q.
